🌿SUMMER PLAYcamps

Where childhood slows down and wonder grows

Our summer camp is intentionally designed as a neurodiverse‑inclusive environment, where every child—whether on the neurodivergent spectrum or not—can thrive through nature‑based exploration, sensory‑rich experiences, and supportive social connection. By blending predictable routines with open‑ended play, we create a space where different learning styles, sensory needs, communication preferences, and ways of engaging with the world are honored and celebrated. Research consistently shows that time in nature reduces stress, supports emotional regulation, and enhances cognitive flexibility for all children, while offering especially meaningful benefits for those who experience the world through unique sensory or neurological pathways.

At our camp, children are free to move, explore, create, and connect at their own pace, making it a place where every child feels seen, supported, and empowered to grow.

What Makes BACK TO NATURE Summer Camp Unique?
Our school break offerings go far beyond outdoor play. Each day is intentionally UN-structured and our mentors take an intentional “step back,” offering support without directing the play. This approach gives children the freedom to imagine, experiment, and create from their own inner world sparkling imagination, developing friendships -and not-so friendships but "occasional collaborations", and support whole-child development through sensory-rich, nature-centered experiences.

Children thrive when they are given space to explore, imagine, and take the lead. Our environments are carefully prepared with open-ended materials, natural elements, and invitations for deep, meaningful play. Whether children are building shelters, creating imaginative worlds, or engaging in collaborative adventures, they are developing essential life skills while immersed in the beauty of the natural world.
At The Childhood Nature Project, we honor children’s autonomy, celebrate their strengths, and create opportunities for them to experience confidence, resilience, and joy.

Why Nature‑Based Breaks Matter for Children on the Neurodivergent Spectrum?
A Reset for the Senses, the Nervous System, and the Spirit

Nature offers something that traditional indoor environments simply cannot: a spacious, sensory‑rich world that meets children exactly where they are. For neurodivergent children—those who experience the world through unique sensory, cognitive, and emotional pathways—time outdoors is not just refreshing. It is therapeutic, regulating, and developmentally essential.

In our programs, children are invited into environments that honor their sensory needs, support their communication styles, and give them the freedom to explore at their own pace. Nature becomes a co‑teacher, offering calming rhythms, predictable patterns, and endless opportunities for meaningful play.

Why Nature Makes Such a Difference?
•     Sensory Regulation Happens Naturally
The outdoors provides a balanced mix of sensory input—movement, texture, sound, light—that helps children regulate without overwhelm. Mud, water, wind, and open space offer proprioceptive and vestibular experiences that support nervous system balance.
•     Movement Is Built In
Neurodivergent children often need more movement than traditional settings allow. Nature invites climbing, running, digging, balancing, and exploring—activities that support motor planning, attention, and executive functioning.
•
 Reduced Social Pressure
Outside, social interactions unfold more organically. Children can join in, observe from a distance, or engage in parallel play without feeling rushed or judged.
•     Emotional Regulation Improves
Green spaces lower stress hormones and support co‑regulation. Many children who struggle indoors find calm, confidence, and joy outdoors.
•     Strengths Shine in Open‑Ended Play
Nature has no “right way” to play. This allows autistic, ADHD, and otherwise neurodivergent children to lead with their strengths—creativity, curiosity, deep focus, problem‑solving, and imagination.
•     Predictability + Freedom = Safety
Our nature‑based environments offer clear boundaries and routines while still giving children the autonomy they crave. This combination builds trust, confidence, and resilience.

For neurodivergent children, these experiences are not luxuries. They are essential supports that help them thrive in school, at home, and in their communities.

See the Difference a Nature-Based Break Can Make
Every day at Back on Nature program is an opportunity for children to:
•     Build confidence through meaningful challenges
•     Strengthen friendships and social skills
•     Experience calm, joy, and sensory nourishment
•     Return home with stories of adventure, discovery, and imagination
